Obsessive Compulsive
Disorder (OCD)
OCD COULD
AFFECT 2-3% OF THE UK
Symptoms can include, intrusive thoughts, intrusive sexual
thoughts, constant fear of danger where there is none,.
Compulsion to complete rituals such as hand washing,
counting or touching objects. Fear of dirt and
contamination. A need for things to be "just as they should
be".
We all worry from time to time about things that might
happen, things that will probably never happen, we can
usually put them out of our mind, go to other thoughts and
other things.
OCD sufferers know that their behaviour can be irrational
but are unable to control these thoughts and compulsions.
Not completing these rituals or compulsions can cause great
distress.
Treatment for OCD would most likely include investigative
work into past habits and patterns, within hypnosis,
cognitive (conscious) behavioural therapy and reframing to
prepare for the future and to feel more in control.
It may be necessary to obtain a written authorisation from
a qualified medical consultant or practitioner before
commencing any form of therapy.
